HOG FEVER was one of the most creatively fulfilling experiences I've ever had. It gave me the opportunity to try things I'd never dared try before, but it wasn't obvious from the off, in fact the reverse seemed inevitable. The whole thing began when I was introduced to Richard LaPlante by an old friend who assured me that there was a meeting of minds in the offing, which seemed unlikely as he was a tough looking customer into weight training, full body tattoos and custom Harley Davidson motorcycles. So much for stereotyping. I soon found out that Richard was a sensitive soul who didn't take his mega masculine route to self - discovery too seriously. Other than being Easy Rider incarnate he was a successful author who'd published a cult biker book called HOG FEVER and - he - was - funny. Our true meeting of minds began with a co - written screenplay for HOG FEVER which was a blast to write but a cluster fuck to sell. Too wild, too weird and two years in front of computer screens going blind - and for what? HOG FEVER the Ear Movie, that's what. About 10 years elapsed before Rich had the epiphany to record our script as a super hyped up radio play, starring his pal TERENCE STAMP and the sheer brass balls to ask me to direct it.
I thought about it for at least 5 seconds - then said yes.
Fuck it, who needs eyes anyway? We're making an Ear Movie...
