I'd worked with Tom Chaplin before on the promo for Keane's 'IS IT ANY WONDER' but this was a radically different proposition.  Towards the end of 2016 I was asked to submit an idea for 'STILL WAITING' from Tom's solo album 'THE WAVE.' It's quite a deceptive track with strong melodic content and lush production but the subject matter deals with Tom's struggles with drug addiction and his hard won escape from that destructive place. Dark and light fused into one song was a tricky proposition, so my solution was to recreate an environment that physically simulated some of the confusion and claustrophobia of his drug usage days and to bookend the film with suggestions of light. It was a complex shoot involving 4 cameras shooting simultaneously, built into 3 separate hand - held mobile rigs. The edit was equally complex as we were cutting between multi - camera set ups and trying to change the emphasis of compositions to match the audio moods. All in all it was an intense but invigorating shoot day with consistently powerful performances from Tom.
